Celebrate International Day Of Play With Columbia Play Project’s “Box City” Event At Felida Park (Photo) -06/09/25

Vancouver, WA — June 9, 2025 — In celebration of the International Day of Play, Columbia Play Project invites families to unleash their imaginations at Box City, a free community event on Tuesday, June 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Felida Park, 3798 NW 122nd Ave.

Box City is a hands-on, open-ended play experience where children use cardboard boxes, kid-safe box cutters, and tape to design and build their own forts, buildings, spaceships, tunnels—or whatever their imaginations can dream up. There are no rules, no instructions, and no limits—just the joy of creating.

“This is the kind of play that encourages problem-solving, cooperation, creativity, and confidence,” says Jeanne Bennett, Executive Director of Columbia Play Project. “Children thrive when they’re given the tools and the freedom to explore. Box City lets them take the lead.”

Held in recognition of the International Day of Play, this event underscores the vital role of play in healthy childhood development. Free-form exploratory play—where children direct their own experiences—has been shown to support social-emotional growth, cognitive development, and physical coordination.

Box City is free to attend, and all materials are provided. Families are encouraged to bring additional boxes (if they have them) dress for play and bring water.

No registration is required.

Join us as we turn Felida Park into a cardboard wonderland—because every child deserves time and space to play.
