Delayed School Start Thursday March 9th - 03/09/17

UPDATE: This is a reminder that the Ketchikan School District will be implementing a delayed start schedule on Thursday, March 9th due to continued unstable and unpredictable weather and road conditions. All bus pick-up times and school start times will be delayed two hours. There will be no zero hour at Ketchikan High School. There will be no pre school at Fawn Mountain, Houghtaling, Pioneer Home, or Pt. Higgins. Afternoon dismissal times and bus schedule are the same as on regular school days. Bus stops will continue to be highways stops.

We will continue to post communications through local radio, text messaging, SchoolMessenger, FlashAlerts, Facebook, and through our district web page. Please monitor these outlets for updates. - Thank you

The Ketchikan School District will be implementing a delayed start schedule on Monday, March 6th due to continued winter weather and road conditions. All bus pick-up times and school start times will be delayed two hours. There will be no zero hours at Ketchikan High School. This will allow DOT and the City time to clear roads. Afternoon dismissal times and bus schedule are the same as on regular school days. Bus stops will continue to be highways stops.

Early dismissal for KCS, SMS, and KHS - 03/03/17

Students that attend Ketchikan Charter School, Ketchikan High School & Schoenbar, are being dismissed at 2:30 to give buses extra time to transport students home in the winter weather conditions.

PM Update: Ketchikan School District - 03/03/17

PM UPDATE: City and state road crews are plowing. School buses will run on a normal schedule with highway stops only.
Parents may pick-up their students before the regularly scheduled release time.

All Ketchikan School District (elementary, middle school, and high school) after school activities are canceled.
If you have kept your child home today due to the winter weather, absences will be excused, please call and let your child's school office know that your child is with you.

Update: School Bus On Jefferson - 03/03/17

There is a school bus stopped on Jefferson, that the school district is attending to. There are no students on board. Please take caution when traveling today.

Any students who are late or absent due to winter weather will be excused, however, please do call your students school and let them know they are home with you.

UPDATE: UPDATE: School buses are running 30 min late or more. Snow is still coming down, please take caution when traveling this morning. Weather reports indicate that the weather may let up mid morning. Any students who are late or absent due to winter weather will be excused.

Winter Weather Contitions - 02/28/17

Families and faculty of KGBSD,

We are anticipating winter weather conditions to continue. We will be closely monitoring the weather overnight and tomorrow morning. With expected road conditions, we will continue highway only stops for our buses. We will post communications through local radio, text messaging, SchoolMessenger, FlashAlerts, Facebook, and through our district web page. Please monitor these outlets for updates. At this time we are planning on operating on a normal schedule.

Afternoon Weather Update - 02/28/17

Dear families of the Ketchikan School District,

As winter weather conditions continue, we are monitoring weather conditions. If your student was absent from school today they will be marked as an excused absence. We appreciate your continued support.

All buses will continue on highway stops.

The following are the schedules for after school activities:
If you have any specific questions, or do not see your activity listed please contact the school or organization

Ketchikan High School - Activities are on a normal schedule. Coaches have been advised to run practices short.

Schoenbar- All after school activities are canceled.

Houghtaling - All after school activities are canceled.

TSAS- Will run the after school program on the normal schedule.

Fawn Mt.- All after school activities are canceled, including Skate Squad.

Pt. Higgins - Does not have any after school activities planned.

Thank you for your cooperation this morning as we endure the winter weather. The school day will continue on the normal schedule. Bus routes this afternoon will be highway stops only.
