La Center receives one of only 9 grants awarded in Washington to support outstanding high school science teachers. - 03/11/15
La Center high school science teacher Mrs. Teri Newman has been awarded a $7,000 grant through the Partners in Science Supplemental Program. According to the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust of Vancouver, Washington, 20 grants of $7,000 each were awarded in the Pacific Northwest with 9 of those being in Washington.
The primary goal of the Program is to provide high school science teachers with opportunities to work at the cutting edge of science, and thus to revitalize their teaching, help them develop new inquiry-based teaching strategies and to encourage more students to pursue careers in science. The selection of awardees is based on the qualifications of the partner members, the quality of scientific research proposed, and the potential of its impact on the high school setting.
