(Cities of Camas and Washougal, WA) - The Camas-Washougal Fire Department was awarded a $1,000 stipend from the national nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education locally by conducting a live, side-by-side fire and sprinkler burn demonstration.
This year, HFSC is selecting fire departments in the United States and Canada that participate in its Built for Life Fire Department Program to receive the stipends and educate the general public. Built for Life Fire Departments commit to making home fire sprinklers a focus of their public education efforts.
“We are honored to have been selected for this generous stipend,” says Randy Miller, Deputy Fire Marshal, of the Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal’s Office. “Using the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition’s educational materials, we will move forward with this important public education demonstration, which illustrates the danger of home fires, especially in today’s lightweight construction homes, and, more importantly, the lifesaving benefits of home fire sprinklers.”
The live demonstration will include two similarly furnished rooms — one protected with fire sprinklers and the other without fire sprinklers. People who attend the demonstration will be able to experience firsthand how quickly a fire can become deadly versus the quick response and effectiveness of a fire sprinkler system in controlling or extinguishing a fire.
The demonstration will be held at the department’s Open House and Health and Safety Fair on Saturday September 22, 2018 at the CWFD Grass Valley Station at 4321 Parker St., Camas.
The Open House, will run from 10 am to 2 pm and the sprinkler demonstration will begin at approximately 11:30.
