Temporary Water Restriction To Replace Well Pump: Dec 16 through Dec. 20, 2018 - 12/12/18

Temporary Water Restriction To Replace Well Pump: Dec 16 through Dec. 20, 2018

The City of Donald drinking water is sourced underground and delivered by a well. This summer it was found out that the well's pump is underperforming due to age. It is the original pump from the 1980s. The City Council reviewed price quotes for a pump and components for the well from companies and a memo from the City Engineer at their November Council Meeting. They voted for Schneider's Water Services (from St. Paul) to perform the work for an estimated $13,863.20. On Monday, December 17th the pump will be replaced as well as the pipe. There will also be a video inspection of the well's casing, which will be a great tool to learn if there are any infrastructure concerns. The work is projected to take two to three days. During this time, there will be no water pumped into the reservoirs. This is where you come in. It is important that we all use water conservatively starting Sunday, December 16th, the day before the well is shut off. This will allow the water supply to build up and reach the top of the reservoirs. Then continue to use water conservatively through December 20th, so that the reservoirs can fill back up to the top. Based on historical water usage data, for this time of the year, there is four days’ worth of water supply. If something changes, the City will communicate to the public via the City's website, three City Community Boards, Post Office Board, FlashAlerts and the Business License email list. The City will also communicate information using these same resources at the end of the project. This is a very exciting project for the City of Donald. The replacement cost of $13,863.20 will NOT increase your monthly bill (outside of the regularly scheduled annual increase) because money is spent conservatively and for this reason unexpected costs can be absorbed by the yearly budget.
