Vancouver, Wash. – Eighteen Vancouver residents have applied to fill Vancouver City Council Seat 2. The council seat will be vacant as of Jan. 1, 2019, due to the resignation of Councilmember Alishia Topper, who was elected Clark County Treasurer in November.
Applicants’ names are listed in alphabetical order by last name on the City’s website at www.cityofvancouver.us/council-vacancy.
Vancouver City Council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, to determine how many applicants they will interview and the process by which they will select interviewees. The council will then adjourn into an executive session from 4:15-5:45 p.m. to discuss the qualifications of the applicants. Immediately following the executive session, council will reconvene in public session to select individuals to be interviewed.
Vancouver City Council will interview selected candidates in a public session starting at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14. Afterwards, council will adjourn into an executive session for deliberations. They will then return to the public session to make an appointment. Once a selection is made, the new councilmember will take his or her oath of office on Monday, Jan. 28.
Vancouver City Council’s executive sessions are not open to the public or media. However, all actions of the council at both public sessions on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, including candidate interviews, will be open to the public and broadcast live on Clark/Vancouver Television, Comcast channel 23, and streaming on www.CVTV.org. Vancouver City Council meets in chambers at Vancouver City Hall, 415 W. 6th St.
