PRESS RELEASE

A25-13028 UNLAWFUL FIREARM ARREST

JUNE 5, 2025

On June 3, 2025, Detectives with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Team (CRT) spoke with a citizen who reported a subject attempting to trade a machine gun.  Detectives learned the reporting party had posted an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) for sale on Facebook Marketplace.  The reporting party received a message in response to the ad from a subject who offered to trade a fully automatic submachine gun, a suppressor, and a motorcycle for the ATV.  The suspect acknowledged that the firearm would be illegal in Washington, but instructed the reporting party to just not tell anyone about it.  The suspect sent a video of the firearm, confirming it was a functional, fully automatic firearm.

CRT Detectives worked with Lower Columbia SWAT and arranged to meet with the suspect on June 4, 2025, in Woodland, Washington.  Detectives staged a decoy truck and trailer at a designated meeting location, as SWAT elements were concealed nearby.  The suspect arrived at the meeting location at approximately 1900 hours and was taken into custody without incident.  A passenger in the suspect vehicle was interviewed and released.

CRT Detectives served a search warrant on the suspect vehicle and recovered a PPSH-style submachine gun, which appeared to be fully automatic and lacked a serial number.  A suppressor and magazine were also recovered.  The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Jacob Shawn Dixon of Salem, Oregon.  Dixon is a convicted felon with prior convictions for weapon offenses and also has a suspended driver’s license.

Dixon was booked into Cowlitz County Jail on charges of Unlawful Firearms, Unlawful Possession of Firearm – 1st Degree, Dangerous Weapons, Assault Weapons (Distributing), and Driving with Suspended/Revoked License 3rd Degree.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

MAY 9, 2025

At 1536 hours of May 9, 2025, Cowlitz 911 received a report of a shooting at a residence in the 1800 block of West Side Hwy in Kelso, Washington.  Deputies responded to the scene and learned that three people associated with the residence had been shot.  A fourth subject was later contacted after arriving at St John Medical Center with a gunshot wound.  That person, a juvenile male, was determined to be a suspect in this incident. All injured parties are expected to survive.

The involved parties are known to each other, and this incident appears to be related to a domestic relationship.  Deputies have learned that while a child exchange took place, a group of subjects that arrived in a vehicle had a dispute with subjects at this residence, and shots were fired.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to process the crime scene and are in contact with multiple subjects who were involved in this incident.  The juvenile suspect received medical treatment at St John Medical Center and was then booked into Cowlitz County Juvenile Detention on three counts of Assault 1st Degree and Drive-By Shooting.

This investigation is ongoing – no further details are available for release at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office requests anyone with information about this incident to call 360-577-3092, reference case A25-10969.
