Firefighters graduate from new hire academy and participate in badge pining.

Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and Winston – Dillard Fire District would like to announce that Steven Roberts and Jordan Mesa have completed their new hire academy and will participate in a graduation ceremony and badge pinning today Thursday July 28, 2022 at the Melrose fire station at 4:00pm.  The two firefighters went through six weeks of daily training in preparation of going on shift.  Both firefighters were successful and will now be assigned to a shift to complete the rest of their probationary year.

Both Roberts and Mesa were students in the fire science and paramedic programs at Umpqua Community College (UCC).  They completed their volunteer work experience at Douglas County Fire District No.2 serving community members, side-by-side, with career firefighters. Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and Winston – Dillard Fire District offers a robust volunteer program providing valuable on-the-job experience, training and tuition scholarships.  Both agencies regularly host UCC fire science and paramedic student volunteers every year and are currently looking for more volunteers. Contact us for more information if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and Winston – Dillard Fire District are happy and excited to welcome Roberts and Mesa to the fire department family and welcome the public to attend their graduation and badge pinning ceremony.
