More than 1,000 Walkers Set to Attend First Annual Stride for Seniors Charity Walk on Sunday, April 22, at PIR - 04/20/18

What: First Annual Stride for Seniors Charity Walk

When: Sunday, April 22, 2018

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Portland International Raceway, 1940 N Victory Blvd., Portland

This noncompetitive walk will feature a Walkers Village, Kids Zone and a variety of entertainment, including:

  • Lance Combs, Juggler
  • Mystique’s Fancy Faces, Face Painting
  • Tuxedo Jimmy, Balloon Animals
  • Seedlings for Seniors
  • Earth Day Arts & Crafts
  • Photo Booth
  • MC Scott Tom from 106.7 The Eagle
  • Pace Car from Presenting Sponsor Wilsonville Subaru
  • Grand Marshall Patricia “Sam” Graham from Gresham

Meals on Wheels People Stride for Seniors Charity Walk Set for April 22 at PIR - 04/12/18

Meals on Wheels People will hold Stride for Seniors Charity Walk on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Portland International Raceway. The event is presented by Wilsonville Subaru. This noncompetitive 3K walk will raise both awareness and funds for Meals on Wheels People.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. and will include live music, a Kids Zone, food, entertainment and a Walkers Village with a variety of vendor booths. Scott Tom, from 106.7 The Eagle, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Patricia “Sam” Graham, a diner and volunteer from Gresham, is the Grand Marshall.

Entertainment will feature Bebop and Beyond, Jefferson High School Heatwave Band, Big Bad Beat and Ronnie Carrier. Other attractions include a juggler, balloon animal artist, face painting, arts and crafts and a variety of activities for children. The event will also feature a pancake breakfast for all participants. More than 1,000 participants are expected to attend.

Teams and individuals are encouraged to register for the event at strideforseniors.org. Awards will be made to the team and individual who raise the most money for Meals on Wheels People. For more information or to register, visit www.strideforseniors.org.

National Service Recognition Day to Focus on Volunteers - 03/28/18

The sixth annual National Service Recognition Day will take place on Tuesday, April 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Meals on Wheels People headquarters in Multnomah Village. On National Service Recognition Day, local leaders honor AmeriCorps and Senior Corps volunteers to express appreciation for their service. This initiative is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties, and Cities of Service.

Emilio Cantu-Gil, an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, who has been working with Meals on Wheels People since last summer will be honored at the ceremony along with other participants. Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith Commissioner Smith and Grace Stratton, on behalf of U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, will recognize our local volunteers at the event and Grace will read a letter from Senator Wyden.
