Meals on Wheels People Cancels Deliveries for Wednesday

Seniors Will Receive Wellness Calls, Told to Eat Shelf-Stable Meal

(December 29, 2021 – Portland, OR.)  Due to another day of icy roads, Meals on Wheels People has canceled deliveries in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties.  Most seniors have received a week of meals ahead of time and those who did not are told to eat shelf-stable meals provided earlier this fall. Staff will make wellness calls to all homebound clients and instruct them to eat one of the shelf-stable meals delivered last fall.

“We want to ensure the safety of both our clients and our volunteers,” said Meals on Wheels People CEO Suzanne Washington. “All of our homebound clients received shelf-stable meals earlier this year in case of an event such as this. We will conduct wellness and safety calls to ensure that they are safe and remind them to eat one of the meals we provided.”

About Meals on Wheels People: Meals on Wheels People has been changing lives, one meal at a time, since 1970. We serve and produce over 7,000 nutritious meals every weekday to older adults throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties. But we provide more than a meal to thousands of older adults in the greater Portland metro area. Our service not only alleviates hunger and social isolation, but allows seniors to live independently with dignity in their own homes. Aging in place reduces depression, falls and hospitalization as well as the high cost of institutional care. For more information, visit: mowp.org.
