A waggle is an individual motion to “set up” and “get ready” for what comes next. Portland Parks Golf is ready to embark on a journey forward, to the NEXT 100 YEARS of serving Portland - where ALL are invited to bring their individuality and unique selves as they experience and enjoy golf.

(Portland, OR) –

A century ago, Portlanders set out to create golf opportunities and instruction for everyone – an experience quite different from the exclusive private clubs which were the primary venues for the game at the time. Today, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s Portland Parks Golf continues to connect ALL Portlanders with the lifelong game, offering top-notch facilities, lessons, and chances to engage with the sport for people of all ages and backgrounds in the Rose City.

Join your neighbors for Portland Parks Golf’s Centennial Celebration: The Next 100 - on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Colwood Golf Center. Starting at 1pm and lasting through the evening’s Summer Free For All Concert in the Park, enjoy an afternoon of FREE, family-friendly fun celebrating the next century of Portland Parks Golf.

WHAT: The Next 100 – celebrating the future of Portland Parks Golf

WHEN: Sunday, August 26, 2018, starting at 1pm.

WHERE: Colwood Golf Center, 7313 NE Columbia Boulevard

Activities begin at 1pm; the Summer Free For All Concert in the Park with Speaker Minds (hip-hop and funk) begins at 6:30pm.

“The goal of the next 100 years of Portland Parks Golf is to embrace the game’s new generation, and make it fun and accessible for everyone,” says Portland Commissioner Amanda Fritz, who has overseen Portland Parks & Recreation for the past five years. “The program has taken notable steps to do just that, with low-cost and high-quality play and instruction, and innovative offerings such as free golf for kids at certain sites, scholarship opportunities thanks to our partners, and classes for women and beginners. There are many more avenues that the Golf program is exploring, and I’m excited about what the future holds for so many people who have yet to discover how enjoyable and rewarding golf can be with Portland Parks Golf.”

The Next 100 is for golfers and non-golfers too! Activities include:

  • Family golf activities and prizes, and fun
  • Kids Golf Zone
  • Golf cart excursions
  • Learning about the first – and the next -  100 years of Portland Parks Golf
  • Live music! Concert in the Park with Speaker Minds (hip-hop and funk) at 6:30pm
  • Fun, games, and more in a beautiful setting with family and friends

About Portland Parks Golf – Celebrating 100 Years!

Portland Parks Golf offers affordable, quality golf to Portland's residents and visitors. Our five golf courses are conveniently located around the metro area to offer unparalleled access to our nationally recognized courses: EastmorelandHeron Lakes - Great Blue, Heron Lakes - Greenback, RedTail, Rose City and Colwood Golf Center.

Portland Parks Golf has been meeting the recreation and golf needs of the Portland community since 1918. The program has a long history of presenting successful, high-profile golf events and tournaments. Portland is the only municipality in the country to have hosted four USGA national championships, and several other notable tournaments and events.

We are proud to offer lessons by trained golf professionals, meeting and hospitality facilities, and public and private events and tournaments at each of our properties. Every year, 400,000 rounds are played on Portland Parks Golf courses.

Golf is a lifelong sport that benefits participants in many ways: it rewards patience, focus, deferred gratification, discipline, and engages the mind and the body.  Portland Parks Golf implements environmentally sustainable maintenance practices.  The program is increasing efficiency through improved equipment and changing turf management practices. We use a minimalist approach to turf maintenance, which maintains playing surface quality while reducing expenses and the needs for irrigation, fertilizer and herbicides.
