06/17/22 Safe storage of prescription medications is one easy way to prevent opioid addiction from ever beginning.
In El Paso County:
- Opioid related deaths (both accidental and suicide) increased from 82 in 2019 to 118 in 2020
- In 2020, there were a total of 24 drug overdoses among 15 to 24 year-olds.
- 29.9% of youth report it would be sort of or very easy to get prescription drugs without a prescription.
- In 2019, unintentional poisoning resulted in the deaths of 3 people ages 0-17.
What You Can do:
- Safely secure your medications in a lockbox.
- Keep medications up, away and out of reach.
- Put medicine away after each use.
- Do not tell children medicine is candy.
