Tangent Fire District Receives Seismic Grant - 05/17/18

Business Oregon has just announced the recipients of the 2018 Seismic Rehabilitation Grants Program (SRGP), and Tangent Fire District Station 71 was one of the structures selected. The SRGP is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, including schools and fire stations. The award, totaling $1,163,245 will provide funding to retrofit and upgrade the structure to better withstand an earthquake, which will allow the district’s main station to continue to be occupied and operational. An engineering study commissioned by the fire district showed that the station, while built to the seismic standards of the time, does not meet current standards in light of a potential Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. It has been predicted that in the next 50 years there is a 40% chance of a major seismic event occurring along the west coast and inland Willamette Valley of Oregon, and this program is especially critical for small organizations who would otherwise not be able to afford the upgrades.
