UPDATE: Motorcycle Operator Dies From Injuries Suffered During Saturday Evening Crash - 01/02/19

The motorcycle operator injured during a crash that occurred on Saturday, December 29, 2018 on northbound Interstate 205 near Northeast Glisan Street died of his injuries on January 1, 2019, at a Portland hospital.

The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Jimmie O. Luff of Tacoma, Washington.

This Major Crash Team investigation is on-going and at this time there have been no arrests or citations issued in relation to the investigation.

Luff's death was the 36th fatal traffic crash investigated by the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team in 2018.

On Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 9:43 p.m.., East Precinct officers responded to northbound Interstate 205 at exit 22 just north of Northeast Glisan Street on the report of a crash involving a motorcyclist.

Officers and emergency medical responders arrived at the scene and located an adult male lying on the roadway. The man was suffering from serious injuries. The injured man was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of what were believed to be serious life-threatening injuries.

Based on information learned at this time in the investigation, officers believe the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Interstate 205 when he rear-ended a vehicle. The motorcyclist fell off his bike and was hit by multiple vehicles.

During this traffic crash investigation northbound Interstate 205 will be closed north of Northeast Glisan Street. Motorists planning to use this portion of northbound 205 should use alternate routes during today's evening commute. This closure is projected to be in place for the next four hours.

Based on the injured man's condition, the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to lead the traffic crash investigation.
