Shooting Investigation Underway in East Precinct - One Person Arrested (Photo) - 12/30/18

On Sunday, December 30, 2018, at 00:36 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to one hundred block of Southeast 127th Avenue on the report of shots fired. As officers were arriving, they learned an adult male was running away from the apartment complex westbound on East Burnside Street.

Officers contacted the apartment residents and learned a non-domestic assault between a male and a female subject occurred inside the apartment. Officers learned that after the suspect exited the apartment, there was a sound of shots fired as the suspect was fleeing from the scene. There was a report that the suspect was armed with a firearm.

There was no reported injury as a result of the assault, and the shots fired. At this time there have been no reports of anyone arriving at area hospitals in connection with this incident. Officers located the evidence of gunfire and seized five .40 caliber casings in front of the apartment. Officers did not locate any property or structure that were damaged by the gunfire.

Officers located the suspect in the area of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street and took him into custody without incident. Officers did not recover the firearm. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old DeAngelo R. Andersen-Smith. Andersen-Smith was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Discharge a Firearm in the City.

Based on preliminary information gathered in the investigation, officers do not believe there is any immediate danger posed to the public in relation to this shooting.

Members with the Portland Police Bureau Tactical Operation Division's Gun Violence Response Team responded to assume the investigation. Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division also responded to assist with the investigation.
